Membership Application
How to Apply
To apply for DMA membership and certification, applicants must complete the following steps:
- Meet Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, actively teaching dance, and have a minimum of three years of dance teaching experience within the past five years. - Connect with a Chapter or with Nationals for our Virtual Option
Connect with a local DMA chapter or register for a virtual syllabus review and virtual examination. - Submit Recommendations
Applicants must obtain four letters of recommendation: two from professionals outside the organization and two from current, active DMA members in good standing. - Complete Membership Requirements
- Certified by Test to Teach
- Pass Examinations
Candidates are required to pass an examination in each dance genre for which they are seeking certification (such as ballet, jazz,
or tap). A minimum passing score of 75% is required.

- Submit a copy of your college credentials
- Complete and submit the national membership application
- Professional Member
- Submit proof of professional dance employment (such as a check stub)
- Complete and submit the national membership application
- Partnered Member
- Provide proof of membership in an approved dance or acrobatic organization
- Complete and submit the national membership application
- Certified by Test to Teach
- Submit Application and Pay Necessary Fees
Applicants must submit the DMA National membership application form and pay necessary fees.
